Arlington could see a $218 million expansion to Interstate 30 as part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s $146 billion investment in roadways.

The project is part of TxDOT’s 10-year transportation plan focused on local roads and major congestion relief. The 2026 Unified Transportation Plan aims to meet the demands of Texas’ growing population and a thriving economy, according to a release.

Construction will widen the Arlington tract of I-30 from Cooper Street to the Dallas County line. The roadway provides easy access to Arlington’s entertainment district, which includes AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and Six Flags Over Texas. Work on the expansion will begin once a contractor is chosen after bidding opens next year.

The I-30 widening is just one of over 500 projects across Texas listed in the Unified Transportation plan, which is approved by the Texas Transportation Commission annually. This is the third consecutive year the plan has exceeded $100 billion.

“This more than $146 billion investment in our roadways will help Texas meet the critical needs of our growing state as more people and businesses move here for the freedom and opportunity they can’t find anywhere else,” said Gov. Greg Abbott in a release. “We must strengthen our roadways and improve congestion and safety to keep our economy booming and keep Texans moving. By investing billions of dollars in our transportation network today, we will build the future of Texas for generations to come.”
