Angela Paxton files for divorce due to ‘recent discoveries’ about Ken Paxton
Texas Sen. Angela Paxton has filed for divorce from her husband, the state attorney general, on “biblical grounds.”
The announcement comes nearly two years after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was acquitted on all 16 articles of impeachment related to allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
The trial delved into whether Ken Paxton used bribery and power to get his mistress a job from one of political donors. Angela Paxton, a McKinney Republican, was present through the proceeding but was not allowed to vote.
Angela Paxton announced the divorce after 38 years of marriage on her social media.
“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” Angela Paxton’s post on X said. “But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.”
She did not go into detail about what the “recent discoveries” were but said she is moving forward with “complete confidence” in the plan God has for her.
Ken Paxton said on his social media that this is the start of a new chapter for the two politicians after facing “the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny.”
He said he remains dedicated to their four children and their grandchildren, and he is proud of the family God has blessed them with.
Paxton is challenging Republican Sen. John Cornyn in the 2026 primary.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which works to elect GOP candidates to the U.S. Senate, issued a statement of support for Angela Paxton. The group is backing Cornyn.
“What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting. No one should have to endure what Angela Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time,” said NRSC spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez in a statement.
