The two Democrats on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court have tabled their proposal to hire a second legal firm to examine redistricting precincts.

Commissioners Alisa Simmons and Roderick Miles had opposed the county hiring Virginia-based Public Interest Legal Foundation to advise the court in the early phases of redistricting. They plan to propose hiring an Austin-based firm, Brazil and Dunn, LLP.

Simmons pulled the proposal from the commissioners’ agenda Tuesday because Miles was out sick. She said she’ll bring the issue up at the next meeting on May 6.

Tarrant County will employ Public Interest Legal Foundation in redrawing commissioner precinct lines ahead of the 2026 elections, when County Judge Tim O’Hare, Commissioner Manny Ramirez and Simmons will be up for reelection.
