Fort Worth area lawmaker celebrates Rangers’ World Series title in remarks to Congress
Celebrations of the Texas Rangers’ World Series win made it all the way to Washington, D.C.
U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, a Willow Park Republican whose district includes much of Arlington, recognized North Texas’ home team in a speech before the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday.
“Mr. Speaker, for the first time in their 63-year history, I am proud to say that after defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5, the Texas Rangers are World Series Champions,” Williams said. “I have the great honor to represent the Rangers in Texas’ 25th Congressional District. I am tremendously proud of this team, who not only won their first World Series, but won a record setting 11 straight post season road games.
“Needless to say, this is a historic moment for Texas and Arlington, and it could not have been done without Manager Bruce Bochy, Series MVP Corey Seager, all the players and staff who left everything on the field, and especially team owners Ray Davis, Neil Leibman and General Manager Chris Young.
“And most importantly, all the fans, the best in the Nation, who showed up to every game day decked out in their Ranger Red, their White, and their Ranger Blue to cheer and support the Texas Rangers.
“I am proud to say, the Rangers ‘went and took it.’
“Again, to the staff and players, congratulations! Enjoy the well-deserved celebrations. We look forward opening day in 2024.
“Go Rangers! And look fast ball. In God we trust, I yield back.”
Back in North Texas, thousands of fans were readying for the Rangers’ victory parade in Arlington.
Williams is a former TCU baseball player and coach. He was also drafted by the Atlanta Braves and played in their farm system. Now, in addition to representing Congressional District 25, he manages the Republican Congressional Baseball team.
