TCU paid for Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker’s trip to national championship
TCU paid for Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker to travel and attend the college football championship game.
This included airfare, hotel stay and tickets to the game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Parker was invited by the university to attend in her official capacity as mayor, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office wrote in a text.
Asked how much the mayor’s trip cost, a university spokesperson wrote in an email that she did not have numbers to share.
On Tuesday, Parker filed a conflict of interest form and got approval for the ceremonial travel from the City Council, one day after Georgia defeated TCU 65-7.
Parker led a pep rally at the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday.
While the result of the game was not what she’d hoped, Parker said at the council meeting on Tuesday that it was special to see so many Fort Worth residents and TCU fans show up in Santa Monica to support the team.
“This city showed up in a big way for those young men who worked really hard this season to show up and show out for Fort Worth,” Parker said.
Parker was joined in Los Angeles by city council member Michael Crain and police chief Neil Noakes.
Both Crain and a spokesperson for the police department said both men paid for their trips.
