Fort Worth city council member Leonard Firestone, who represents parts of far north Fort Worth and the cultural district, will not seek reelection in May.

Firestone, a first-term council member, said he was proud of his service, but that the demands of the job conflicted with the needs of his family. He is a father of four children.

He will serve out the rest of his term, which expires on May 16.

Firestone was one of five new members elected to the City Council in 2021.

The first day for candidates to file for the May 2023 city council elections is Jan. 18. The city council is adding two districts.
