A former Keller city council member killed Saturday at a Dallas air show was honored Tuesday on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne, an Irving Republican, gave a speech recognizing Terry Barker of Keller, a longtime American Airlines pilot who served two terms on the city council until 2003. He, Leonard “Len” Root, also of Keller, Dan Ragan of Dallas, Curtis “Curt” Rowe of Hilliard, Ohio, Kevin “K5” Michels of Austin and Craig Hutain from the Houston area were killed Saturday when a P-63 Kingcobra collided with a B-17 Flying Fortress at the Commemorative Air Force’s Wings Over Dallas air show.

“I rise today with a heavy heart,” Van Duyne said on the House floor. “Over the weekend, tragedy struck North Texas as six lives were taken in an air show honoring our veterans. One victim was Texas-24 resident and local leader Terry Barker.”

She called Barker the “epitome of an all-American hero” and went through examples of his public service, including in the U.S. Army.

“Texas-24 lost an American patriot, public servant and beloved friend this week,” she said. “I ask you to please join me in praying for Terry, his family and all of those affected by this weekend’s tragedy.”
