A Mansfield school board member was arrested on a charge of family violence.

Mansfield school board member Bianca Benavides Anderson was arrested Saturday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury/family violence, the school board confirmed Monday afternoon.

In a statement Monday forwarded to the Star-Telegram by the district, board president Courtney Lackey Wilson said the issue would be handled by the board. She said she has “consulted with the District’s legal counsel” and that the board is “assessing and evaluating the situation.”

Wilson did not immediately respond to an email from the Star-Telegram about possible ramifications for Benavides Anderson and when the board will have a decision.

Representatives with the Mansfield police said in an email Monday afternoon the department responded to a call at the 700 block of Ascot Park Drive at around 2:00 a.m. Saturday, where they determined there was probable cause to arrest Benavides Anderson. She was subsequently taken to the Mansfield Jail.

Benavides Anderson did not return a phone call and text for comment.
