Tarrant County’s 2023 budget is about $107.5 million more than last year’s, but the property tax rate is .005 lower.

The commissioners Tuesday approved the $904.7 million budget for the 2023 fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. The property tax rate dropped from .229 to .224. The increased budget is due to nearly $11 million in new property from both home and commercial construction, according to budget information provided by the county.

Here are some of the items in the budget:

  • $44.5 million will go toward improving Tarrant County roads and bridges, an increase of more than $3 million from last year.
  • About $591,000 is set aside for veterans services, an increase of $41,000 from last year.
  • Child Protective Services will receive $2.5 million, an increase of $111,500.
  • $811,000 will go to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services, which provides classes on a variety of subjects for school children and adults. It is a $31,000 increase from last year.
