Debate over so-called critical race theory has flared up at school board meetings, in local elections and around dinner tables across the country.

Tarrant County is no exception.

In some communities here, parents and others have argued vehemently over how race, racism and LGBTQ issues are taught in public schools (or whether they should be taught at all). But are these the arguments of only a small, very vocal minority? Is “critical race theory” and issues of gender or sexuality a manufactured crisis during an election year? Or perhaps many families still are unclear what the debate is really over?

The Star-Telegram is exploring how these controversies are playing out across Tarrant County, both in front of a microphone at school board meetings but also in less public settings — among friends and families, within our diverse communities, in churches and salons and even among educators.

We want to hear from people who have opinions about this. How do you perceive these issues? Do you have questions about what’s happening in schools, or even why it matters? We hope you consider sharing your views with us, using the form below.
