Karen Duncan, JPS Hospital Network’s chief operating officer, will take over as president of JPS in January, the Board of Managers announced Thursday afternoon.

Duncan will replace Robert Earley, who has served in the role since 2009. Earley announced his retirement earlier this month, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family and care for his parents. Early planned to be out of his position by March 2022.

Duncan has worked for JPS for five years, and has been in charge of the JPS Future Plan that is supported by an $800 million bond passed by voters in 2018.

“I am both humbled and honored to serve as CEO of such a highly esteemed and accomplished health care system,” Duncan said in a statement. “JPS is well positioned to lead the transformation of healthcare delivery in Tarrant County and to improve lives within the many communities we serve. I look forward to working alongside a committed Board, a strong executive and leadership team and an amazing JPS team.”

Neither Duncan nor Earley could be immediately reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
