Does this huge UK home for sale look like ‘the inside of an Ikea closet?’ Take a look
A striking English estate that was featured on a popular TV series in the United Kingdom has landed on the real estate market in St. Albans for $6.86 million.
Abbey Orchard House, which was designed by an “award-winning” company, has been described as “remarkable and breathtaking” by Kevin McCloud, the presenter on the long-running British show “Grand Designs,” the listing on Savills.com says.
And breathtaking it is.
“After passing through a Japanese gate, the entrance reveals itself. Jasmine trailed over the pergola provides a magical scent as one crosses a stone bridge between flowing water,” the listing describes. “One enters through the massive maple double doors and into a 30m glazed atrium that connects the two wings of this remarkable house. The influence of Feng Shui plays its part as does the strong visual connection with the surrounding landscape.”
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home spanning 5,175 square feet on two acres was even featured on the popular social media real estate Zillow Gone Wild, a Facebook page and Twitter account that highlight unique properties for sale.
“This home in St. Albans in England has been described as ‘part Japanese, part medieval cloister, part Roman villa’ by ‘Grand Designs’ host Kevin McCloud and it’s perfect,” the home’s caption said.
And needless to say, some fans were in love. Others? A tad confused.
“I remember this episode! They’re selling?! Also, Kevin is my hero,” one person gushed.
“They are selling?! I watched the Grand Designs episode and it was spectacular!” another said.
“So very many windows. I hope this comes with a lifetime supply of Windex,” someone noted.
“Too much of an office building/hospital atrium feeling. No personality at all,” one person said.
“I could hear someone saying ‘would you tell the kids to stop running on the roof?’” another joked.
“I never thought a house would hit my personality perfectly, but this one has done it!” someone tweeted.
“I un-ironically love this, actually,” one person said.
“It’s the inside of an Ikea closet,” another commented.
