The Cat in the Hat takes on Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump
Voters wanting an alternative to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have another option: The Cat in the Hat.
Announcing his candidacy on the steps of creator Dr. Seuss’ childhood home in Massachusetts, the Cat said Tuesday he’ll run as an independent for the White House. He also has his running mates lined up: Thing 1 and Thing 2.
The Cat’s campaign said he’ll represent those under the age of 18. “Who better to bring fun back into the White House?” a campaign video asks.
Susan Brandt, president of Dr. Seuss Enterprises and the Cat's campaign manager, spoke for the candidate.
“As the kids’ candidate, the Cat in the Hat will show kids that every vote counts and every voice matters,” Brandt said at a press conference. “The Cat will ensure that kids, your voice will be heard.”
The campaign listed on its website a choice of causes, represented by Seuss characters, which kids can vote on.
Among the choices are Dick and Sally for education, fish for ocean conservation, the Lorax for the environment, Sam-I-am to fight hunger and Horton for kindness for all. Each cause represents a charity, and the cause with the most votes will win $10,000. Voters have until Nov. 8.
According to The Republican newspaper in Springfield, Massachusetts, the campaign said it has plans to release the Cat’s tax returns and be “fully transparent.”
The event also launched a new book called "One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote," which is now available.
