Senior buys Valentine’s Day flowers for each girl in his high school
A Utah high school senior didn’t want any girl in his school left out this Valentine’s Day, so he spent nearly $500 of his own money to purchase a carnation for each of them.
According to ABC News and KUTV and WSOC TV reports, Hayden Godfrey, 17, worked three jobs and saved for a year and half to afford the 900 carnations that he and 20 volunteers distributed Thursday at Sky View High School to 834 female students. WSOC TV reported that Godfrey worked as a dishwasher at a Mexican resturant, a cook at McDonald’s and a bagger at a grocery store to save up $450 to buy the flowers.
The senior told The Herald Journal of Logan (http://bit.ly/1VcheoZ) that many girls feel depressed if they don’t get anything on Feb. 14. He told school administrators about the plan a year and a half ago.
“I don’t think anything can compare to seeing every girl in your life holding a flower as they walk through the halls,” Godfrey wrote in a Facebook post about what he did.
Godfrey’s girlfriend, Lilyan, loved the idea, he says, and helped with the planning.
“It meant a lot,” said carnation recipient Kayedin Craw, a senior who also works with Godfrey at the Smithfield grocer, told KUTV. “I felt very special.”
