Sibling caught man groping 10-year-old in store, OR officials say. He’s sentenced
A man groping a 10-year-old girl in an Oregon grocery store fled when the child’s sibling came around a corner and screamed for help, officials said.
Adam M. Caldwell now has been sentenced to four years in prison, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said in a Sept. 26 news release.
The incident happened June 20, 2024, in a Fred Meyer in Portland, officials said.
Caldwell was seen on video approaching a young girl in a store aisle, looking around and grabbing the child’s buttocks, prosecutors said in the release.
As he grabbed the child, her older sibling came around the corner, saw the assault and screamed, “drawing the attention of their father,” officials said.
The man fled from the store and was identified and arrested more than a month later, officials said.
In addition to his four-year prison sentence on an attempted sexual abuse charge, Caldwell also has to register as a sex offender, prosecutors said.
“I am proud of the victim’s bravery and deeply appreciate the family’s participation in this process,” Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Afton Coppedge said in the release.
“I hope that this sentence sends a message to offenders that our community is determined to speak up against violence and hold them accountable,” she said.
