Man assaulting fiancée’s 11-year-old is tased as he holds her, Michigan cops say
A man assaulted his fiancée’s 11-year-old daughter, then dragged the girl outside as her mom followed, Michigan authorities say.
The child’s mother called 911 during the incident, which the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said happened around 8 p.m. Sept. 22 in Newport.
The stepdad-to-be dragged the girl from the home and began “walking down the street with her, refusing to let her go,” deputies said.
The girl’s mother followed them, and officers soon found the man “still with the victim in his grasp,” according to a news release. The man, whose identity was not released, was asked to let go of the child, but deputies said he refused.
“After further attempts to get the child from the offender, he continued to be uncooperative,” the sheriff said. “At that time the deputies deployed Tasers and the offender fell down to the ground, freeing the child victim from his grasp.”
Deputies said the child had minor injuries from the assault, but she was not harmed when the Tasers were deployed. She was returned safely to her mom.
The man was taken into custody and treated for minor injuries at a hospital, authorities said.
After he was released, he was jailed on preliminary charges of “domestic assault, unlawful imprisonment and several counts of resisting and obstructing police,” the sheriff said.
Newport is about a 30-mile drive southwest from Detroit.
