Woman unknowingly takes abortion drugs, loses baby, IL cops say. Man arrested
An Illinois man is facing homicide charges after police say he caused a pregnant woman to suffer a miscarriage.
Emerson Evans, a 31-year-old resident of Normal, is accused of “administering abortion-inducing medication without the mother’s consent,” the Bloomington Police Department said in an Aug. 23 news release.
Police say the woman was unaware that she had been given abortion drugs
Firefighters and police officers responded at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, to a Bloomington home where first responders found a pregnant woman who was “having a medical emergency,” which resulted in the loss of her unborn child, the department said.
An investigation revealed that an abortion had been induced without her knowledge, according to police.
Evans was arrested on two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child, the department said.
“We are again saddened by the alleged criminal actions which resulted in harm to others. It is my hope the mother involved in the matter fully recovers and has the resources and support of this strong community in the future,” Police Chief Jamal Simington said in the release. “The officers and detectives worked diligently and honorably through this very tough investigation.”
The unborn child’s cause of death is under investigation, police said.
Bloomington is a roughly 65-mile drive northeast from Springfield.
