Business owner shot 18 times in deadly robbery, NM officials say. Man sentenced
A business owner was shot 18 times and killed in a robbery in New Mexico, and now a 22-year-old man is heading to prison in the brutal crime, officials said.
Juan Carlos Hernandez was sentenced to life behind bars plus 21 years after a jury convicted him of charges including first-degree murder and armed robbery, the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office said in an Aug. 6 post on Facebook.
McClatchy News reached out to his attorney Aug. 7 and was awaiting a response.
Hernandez and another man, Jorge Rivera-Ramirez, are accused in Sihui Fang’s killing, prosecutors said.
Fang owned Wonderful Massage in Albuquerque, and she was found dead there in 2022 after a robbery, according to prosecutors.
She’d tried to escape the robbery but was forced back in, according to prosecutors.
“Fang was able to arm herself and shot in self-defense,” prosecutors said, and “Rivera-Ramirez and Hernandez shot numerous rounds” at her.
Rivera-Ramirez was sentenced earlier this year to life behind bars plus 18 years, according to prosecutors and online court records.
McClatchy News couldn’t immediately reach his attorney Aug. 7 for comment.
In an online obituary, Fang, 45, was described as “a once-in-a-lifetime incredible human being.”
She had an “adventurous spirit” and “her kindness was appreciated by all who knew her,” according to the obituary, which added that “her personality lit up the world, her thirst for knowledge was endless and her beauty unmatched.”
