Son finally listens to mom’s advice to buy lottery ticket — and wins big prize
A Maryland man has his mom to thank — at least in part — for his $50,000 lottery win.
He only buys lottery tickets occasionally, while she’s a more dedicated player, Maryland Lottery officials said in an Aug. 1 news release.
“She always says, ‘you should try it,’” the man told lottery officials.
So he took her advice while getting gas July 23 and picked up a Bonus Match 5 ticket for $6, lottery officials said.
The next day, he checked the lottery website, and “I honestly was a bit confused when I saw my numbers were matching,” he said, per the release. “I’ve only played a handful of times, so I wasn’t sure if it was $50,000 or what.”
He got in touch with his mom, and she “verified the ticket was worth the $50,000 he suspected,” lottery officials said.
The man, from Columbia, said he’ll use the winnings on a house down payment and medical bills, per lottery officials.
Plus, he plans to celebrate with his mom.
Columbia is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
