Missing man’s Tesla Cybertruck found parked at Grand Canyon trail, rangers say
A missing 35-year-old man’s Tesla Cybertruck was found parked at a Grand Canyon trailhead nearly a week after he was last heard from, park officials said.
Thomas Daniel Gibbs of Freehold, New Jersey, last spoke to his family at about noon July 22, the National Park Service said in a July 29 news release.
He’s believed to have been in the Grandview Trail and Horseshoe Mesa area that day, park officials said.
His family reported him missing July 28.
Gibbs’ Tesla Cybertruck was then found in the Grandview Point parking lot the same day, officials said, but he was nowhere to be seen.
Park officials are now asking the public for help finding him.
Anyone with information about Gibbs can call the Investigative Services Branch Tip Line at 888-653-0009 or submit a tip online or by email at nps_isb@nps.gov.
Grandview Trail is described as being “rugged, narrow and steep” with a drop-off, according to NPS.
Park officials warn this trail is only for “experienced desert hikers” who need a map and a plan before going into the canyon.
There were 4.9 million visitors to the Grand Canyon in 2024.
