Grandparents, mom exposed toddlers to meth while making drug at home, AR cops say
A 2-year-old and 3-year-old were removed from an Arkansas home as their mother and grandparents used drugs daily while making and selling methamphetamine, police said.
The toddlers tested positive for “shockingly high levels” of drugs, including meth, THC and amphetamines, according to court documents filed on July 16.
The mother and grandparents are facing charges of introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person and endangering the welfare of a minor, the affidavits of probable cause said.
Their attorney information was not listed. McClatchy News is not naming the family members to protect the identity of the children.
An investigation into the family home in Williford was opened in June by the Arkansas Department of Human Services, police said.
During a home visit, an investigator noticed the mother and grandmother appeared to be under the influence of a substance, and a knife and drugs were within reach of the toddlers, the affidavit said.
The mother told the DHS investigator that “they use drugs all together” daily and cook and sell meth from the home, the affidavit said. She also failed a drug test, and the grandmother refused to take one, according to officials.
The children were placed into foster care June 20 and were given a hair follicle test, during which they tested positive for drugs, police said.
The grandfather is held on a $250,000 bond, while the grandmother is held on a $75,000 bond, according to jail records. The mother was not listed in Sharp County Jail records.
The grandparents are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6.
Williford is a 160-mile drive northeast from Little Rock.
