A 21-year-old fired gunshots into his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom window while she was at home with two others, Virginia officials said.

Now, Navari Deyontae Taylor is sentenced to four years and two months in prison after he pleaded guilty June 17 to shooting into an occupied dwelling and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney said in a July 1 news release.

Another eight years and 10 months in custody were suspended on conditions of one year of supervised probation and five years of uniform good behavior after he’s released, officials said.

Days before the shooting, Taylor had received a misdemeanor charge on accusations of threatening his ex-girlfriend, officials said.

On Oct. 18, Taylor and three others drove to her home in Norfolk, and he fired multiple shots into her bedroom window, officials said.

Then, as the group drove away, Taylor threw the gun out of the car, officials said.

No one was injured in the shooting, according to officials.

After the woman and two others in the home at the time called police to report the shooting, officers located the car with Taylor inside driving quickly with no headlights on an interstate, officials said.

Officers stopped the car and all four people were detained, officials said, and the gun was also found near a road.

“Mr. Taylor had no reason to shoot into his ex-girlfriend’s house, and everyone, including Mr. Taylor, is lucky that he did not hurt anyone,” Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi said in a news release. “... The difference between a shooting like this one and a murder is often a matter of luck, and we will continue to prosecute and hold accountable the people who commit gun violence in our city.”
