An Indiana man is accused of gunning down his ex-girlfriend while she was holding their infant child, according to police.

Officers responded to a call about a shooting on the north side of Fishers on Saturday, June 21, and found a woman with gunshot wounds, the Fishers Police Department said in a June 22 news release.

The woman, who police have not publicly identified, was shot multiple times by her ex-boyfriend, 21-year-old Giovanny Javier De Jesus De Jesus, police said. He is also the father of the baby she was holding, according to the department.

The woman was taken to a hospital, underwent surgery and is in stable condition, according to police. Her ex was gone by the time police arrived at the scene.

“De Jesus fled the scene before officers arrived,” police said. “Witnesses provided vital information regarding the description of the suspect and the car he was in.”

However, investigators say De Jesus turned himself in to police in Decatur, which is about a 100-mile drive northeast from Fishers.

Luckily, the baby wasn’t struck by gunfire and only suffered “minor abrasions” from the ordeal, according to police.

De Jesus was booked into Hamilton County Jail, police said.

Fishers is a northeastern suburb of Indianapolis.
