Armed man subjects ex-girlfriend to ‘days of torture’ in Colorado, cops say
A 43-year-old man is accused of holding his ex-girlfriend captive and assaulting her for days, police in Colorado said.
The man was arrested June 9 following a chase and is facing multiple possible charges, including aggravated felony menacing with a weapon and aggravated second-degree assault, the Commerce City Police Department said in a June 10 news release.
McClatchy News isn’t naming the man pending formal charges being filed.
Officers called to a home on a report of a protection order violation learned “a woman had been held captive against her will by her ex-boyfriend — armed with a weapon — and assaulted for several days,” police said.
Officers found the man in a car near the home, and he drove off “at a high rate of speed” when they tried to contact him, police said.
Officers gave chase, with other law enforcement agencies helping, police said.
Police eventually disabled the man’s vehicle, and he then ran away before being tracked down by a sheriff’s K9, police said.
In the news release, police said, “We would be remiss not to recognize the multi-agency partnership that led to this favorable outcome after days of torture for (his) victim.”
Commerce City is about a 10-mile drive northeast from Denver.
