15-year-old stabbed walking home from school, FL cops say. Teen and mom arrested

A 15-year-old was jumped and stabbed by a group of masked individuals as retaliation from a previous fight he had won, and now two teenagers and a mom have been arrested, Florida authorities said.

A 15-year-old accused of doing the stabbing has been arrested, alongside his 33-year-old mother, who’s accused of making up a fake alibi for her son, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said June 3.

Previously, a 13-year-old classmate who deputies say “planned and orchestrated the attack” was charged with principal to aggravated battery in the May 14 assault in Deltona, investigators said in a news release.

McClatchy News is not identifying the teens because of their ages.

“Sad state of affairs that you get in a fist fight, and you lose you, and you round up your posse and stab a kid,” Chitwood told WFTV.

The 15-year-old victim was getting ready to walk home from his middle school the day after a previous fight when a school official warned him “a couple kids might be trying to jump him,” deputies wrote in an arrest affidavit.

He waited until he thought they were gone, then he left school, deputies said. But he encountered his 13-year-old classmate he had fought the day prior, as well as others wearing ski masks, and he tried to go a different way, he told investigators.

Surveillance footage captured the group catch up to him and attack him, continuing to punch and kick him on the ground, deputies said. The 13-year-old who was later arrested was recording the fight, according to investigators.

The middle school victim was stabbed five times before the group fled, deputies said.

One of the accused attackers was identified as the 15-year-old high school student who has now been arrested, but deputies have not released the others’ identities.

“His mother was just taken into custody moments ago for coming up with an elaborate alibi that she handed to detectives,” Chitwood said.

But the sheriff said the teen’s phone gave him away.

He was arrested on an aggravated battery charge, and the mom was charged with providing false information to a law enforcement officer during a missing person or felony investigation, Volusia County records show.

Volusia County includes the Daytona Beach metropolitan area.
