Tenant shoots and kills landlord over eviction notice, Nevada police say
A tenant upset over an eviction notice fatally shot his landlord at his Nevada home, police say
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department got a report of a shooting inside a home just before 5 p.m. Thursday, May 29, the department said in a news release shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
When officers arrived, they called out, asking those inside the home to come outside, police said.
One person who left the home was Christopher Rainey, 36, according to police.
He was armed with a gun and “taken into custody,” police said.
Officers entered the home and found an injured man with gunshot wounds, police said.
First responders pronounced the man dead on scene, police said.
Detectives discovered the man “had served Rainey with an eviction notice,” which “upset” him, according to police.
The two had “a brief verbal exchange,” then Rainey shot his landlord “several times,” police said.
Rainey was booked into jail on a count of open murder with a deadly weapon, police said.
The identity of the man who was killed has not been publicly released by police.
