A dog is back home and basking in the warm glow of his family after a kind Highway Patrol officer in Canton, Ohio, managed to save his life — and get it all on body cam.

In the footage, posted to Facebook on May 14, Sgt. Brett Claxon sees the handsome pup on the side of Interstate 77 as cars rush by.

In a cool and calm voice, the sergeant calls to the dog, who is dangerously close to the highway.

“Hey, Buddy! Want treats?” he offers as the pup hears him and immediately comes over to Claxon, who is standing on the side of the road in the grass.

Claxon allows the brown and white pup to sniff him before petting, and it’s clear that the pup is charmed and starts wagging his tail.

He’s able to guide the dog over to his patrol car and as he attempts to get him in the back, the dog decides “nope” and hops right into the front seat as if he’s ready to play the role of “trooper.”

People flooded the video’s comment section, remarking on Claxon’s quick thinking and the pup’s adorable demeanor.

“He’s like ‘nope, front seat it is sir,’” one person joked.

“He didn’t want the back he knew he would go to jail lol,” another said.

“Nobody puts Baby in the back seat, lol,” someone commented.

“Missed opportunity to have him wear the hat,” one person offered.

The department said that the dog has since been reunited with his owner.

Canton is about a 60-mile drive south from Cleveland.
