Grumpy pup with a soft side at Pennsylvania shelter needs ’someone who gets him’
A dog is playing his “grandpa card” by metaphorically telling everyone to stay off his lawn and at a distance at a Philadelphia animal shelter. But, like a Tootsie Pop, you have to endure the tough exterior to get to the soft sweetness inside.
While Chino, a 13-year-old pup, can be a little cranky, he’s actually just a tiny cuddle bug.
“Oh, Chino. He’s small, he’s crusty, and yes, he can be a bit of a grump,” the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said in a May 13 Facebook post.
“Chino is an older man who’s been through more than his share of hard times. His world was recently turned upside down once again and now he finds himself starting over. At his age, that’s a tough ask.
“So yes, Chino can be moody. He wants things a certain way. He doesn’t always pretend to be cheerful. But if anyone’s earned the right to be a little grumpy, it’s him.”
But don’t let that fool you. Snooty scrooges often mask lovable boops.
“That being said, once you get to know him, he’s all heart. With his people, Chino is a total velcro dog. He loves to be by their side and is so incredibly loyal,” the shelter says.
“He isn’t looking to be the life of the party and would prefer a quiet home, but he really loves other pups and is open to meeting dog-savvy kids who respect that sometimes, an old guy just needs space. Chino’s not perfect and he isn’t looking for perfection — just someone who gets him.”
His age may be on the tad high side, but he still loves everyday things, his pet profile says.
“He still enjoys the simple pleasures in life: exploring the yard, going for strolls, and soaking up the sunshine,” his profile notes.
