A lottery player in Georgia made history after netting a $2.4 million jackpot.

The lucky player won a whopping $2,488,184 in the Fantasy 5 drawing Friday, May 9, marking the largest ever jackpot win for the game since its 1994 debut, the Georgia Lottery said.

The ticket, sold at a Food City grocery store in Cartersville, matched all five winning numbers, according to the lottery. The lucky player beat odds of 1-in-850,668 to win the top prize.

The winning Fantasy 5 numbers drawn Friday were 6-12-22-26-27, results show.

“This ticket breaks the previous record-holding jackpot from the September 17, 2020, drawing, where a player in Claxton won $2,394,862,” officials said in a news release.

The player came forward to claim their winnings May 12 at the lottery’s office in Dalton, a lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News.

Winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes and are encouraged to sign the back of their ticket, the Georgia Lottery said.

Cartersville is about a 40-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
