Girl goes to pick up ‘stick’ at Maryland beach — but then it starts slithering
A family trip to a Maryland beach ended with an appearance by an unexpected guest.
Roxanne Flanagan took her kids to Spring Fest at Ocean City Beach on April 25, she told McClatchy News.
Flanagan’s mom wanted to take the kids to the water to dip their feet. That’s when Flanagan’s daughter reached to pick up what she thought was a stick.
They were shocked when they saw it was actually a snake.
Flanagan said the snake slithered toward them and she told her kids to get back so they wouldn’t get bitten.
“I was scared because I don’t like snakes,” she said.
Flanagan has been going to Ocean City Beach her whole life and this was the first time she saw a snake.
She said she will go back, but with caution.
“Please be careful when traveling. You never know what you’re going to see and what will happen. This was the highlight of our weekend,” she said.
The Department of Natural Resources captured the snake and said it planned to release it into the wild, Flanagan said.
