A man who has played lottery games for 40 years has won a huge jackpot — one of the largest offered in the Michigan Lottery.

The 60-year-old lottery player from Macomb County told Michigan Lottery officials he has played scratch-off games “all the time” over the last four decades.

With a $50 purchase of the $6,000,000 Wealth game, all of his ticket buying has now paid off in a big way.

“When I scratched the ticket and saw I won $6 million, I thought I was going to faint!” he told lottery officials in an April 28 news release..

Officials said he purchased his ticket from Najors Liquor & Deli in Sterling Heights.

“I had to scan it on the Lottery app to double check it because I didn’t believe what I was seeing. It still feels surreal,” he said.

He chose to receive the one-time lump sum payment of $4.1 million, according to the lottery.

With his prize — the first of three $6 million jackpots the game offers — the man said he plans to take a vacation and put the remainder in savings.

Sterling Heights is about a 25-mile drive north from Detroit.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
