Man walking into home guns down neighbor in driveway, Kentucky cops say
A man is accused of shooting his neighbor after he said the neighbor threatened to “end” him, Kentucky authorities say.
James Schooler Jr., who the Louisville Metro Police Department said fired multiple shots at his neighbor April 19, is now charged with first-degree assault, court records show.
Police said Schooler, 67, was walking toward his front door around 8 p.m. when his neighbor began speaking to him from his own driveway.
“I’m going to end you,” the neighbor said, according to Schooler, who told officers the other man “had his hands near his waistband,” police said.
Schooler then shot his neighbor multiple times before going inside and calling 911, according to police. The victim, whose age is unclear, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Police said the victim did not appear to be in possession of a weapon.
“According to the suspect, he has never been threatened, verbally or otherwise, previously by the victim,” police said.
Schooler was jailed on a $100,000 bond, court records show. He is due in court for a preliminary hearing April 29.
