Man beats dad to ground, then runs over his mom with truck, NM officials say
A man is going to prison after being convicted of beating his dad and running over his mom with his truck, New Mexico officials said.
In October 2023, Rufino Urquidi Castillo was followed by his parents to a gas station because they thought he might be drunk, according to an April 17 Facebook post by the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office.
That’s when Urquidi Castillo started fighting with his dad, knocking him to the ground and kicking him, prosecutors said.
Urquidi Castillo got back in his truck and ran over his mom, then drove into a crowd of bystanders, hitting an Applebee’s employee, officials said.
He eventually got out of his truck and picked up his mom, who was unconscious, before dropping her on the cement, officials said.
He started fighting with the crowd of bystanders before a construction worker detained him until police arrived, officials said.
During his arrest, Urquidi Castillo kicked and spat on an officer, prosecutors said.
A jury found him guilty on charges of aggravated battery against a household member, aggravated battery, great bodily harm with a vehicle, and battery on a peace officer, the release said.
Urquidi Castillo faces a maximum of 21 years in prison, officials said.
Bernalillo County is about a 6-mile drive south of Albuquerque.
