A Mega Millions player bought a winning ticket in Michigan, but was just one number short of winning the $72 million grand prize, lottery officials said.

The player’s ticket had five lucky numbers picked in the latest drawing on Friday, April 11, according to officials, but not the correct Mega Ball number. The winning numbers were 15, 37, 38, 56, 58 and a Mega Ball of 19.

The player added a 3X multiplier to their ticket, which brought their prize to $3 million.

Nobody won the grand prize, which has increased to an estimated $96 million, with a cash option of approximately $42.2 million, officials said. Players will have another chance to win on the next drawing on Tuesday, April 15.

Nearly 216,000 other winning Mega Millions tickets were sold, with prizes ranging from $10 to $5,000.

March 25 was the last time someone won the Mega Millions grand prize, which was valued at $349 million, officials said.

What to know about Mega Millions

To score the jackpot in the Mega Millions, a player must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball. The odds of scoring a jackpot prize are 1 in 290,472,336.

Tickets cost $5 and can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times vary by state.

Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
