Powerball player just misses $55M jackpot — but still wins big in California
A lucky Powerball player in California won $79,846, just missing the $55 million jackpot, lottery officials said.
The ticket matched four of five winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Monday, April 7, according to California Lottery.
The winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in National City, which is about a five-mile drive southeast from San Diego.
No one hit the grand prize, so the jackpot has grown to an estimated $65 million, with a cash prize of $31.4 million, for the next drawing, Wednesday, April 9, the national Powerball site said.
The winning numbers were 20, 23, 48, 59 and 66, with a Powerball of 4, the lottery said. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
Powerball players in Georgia and Colorado scored $100,000 prizes during the drawing, McClatchy News reported.
More than 295,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the U.S. also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.
Prize amounts are pari-mutuel in California, so prizes are based on ticket sales and the number of winners.
