A Florida man saw immediately that he won a top prize from a lottery scratch-off he bought more than 600 miles from home.

He was right, lottery officials said.

Andrew Lubbers won the top $5 million prize in the $326,000,000 Fortune game, the Virginia Lottery said in a March 28 news release.

Lubbers told lottery officials he knew right away that he’d won the game’s top prize.

He chose to take home $3,125,000 in cash, rather than the full $5 million in annual payments over 30 years, the lottery said.

The winning ticket was bought at a Food City in Big Stone Gap in western Virginia, according to lottery officials.

Lubbers’ prize marks the final top prize win of the $50 game, which began Oct. 4, 2022, according to the game’s web page. The game is now closed, lottery officials said.

The odds of winning the top prize were 1 in 2,774,400, according to the lottery.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
