A coin worth 5 cents helped a man win thousands of dollars playing the Arkansas Lottery.

The “lucky nickel” is part of the daily lottery player’s routine, he told officials. When he took his ticket for the $50,000 Frenzy game back to his Perry County home, he reached for the lucky coin to see if he had won a prize.

As he carefully scratched the $20 ticket, he was shocked to see a $1,000 prize with a 20X multiplier.

“Whoa! Are there any more?” he thought to himself.

He kept going, knowing that his lucky nickel had helped him win multiple $5,000 prizes in the past.

He discovered another 20X multiplier and an instant win symbol worth $10,000, landing him the top prize of $50,000, Arkansas Lottery officials said in a March 19 news release.

The player was “so surprised,” he told officials, and immediately went to tell his wife.

He texted her “OMG” five times in a row, causing her to be concerned until he announced the good news.

The pair has not decided what to do with the winnings, but the player says he wants to keep playing the lottery.

He added that he has more winning tickets to claim.

Perry County is about a 50-mile drive northwest from Little Rock.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
