An argument that spilled out into an apartment parking lot turned violent as a man raised his gun and fatally shot a person in the head, Missouri police said.

The two men were hanging out at a mutual friend’s apartment March 15 when Te’Shawn Jones said he felt the man had been “disrespecting” Jones’ friend, authorities said.

The pair drew guns as they continued their argument in an O’Fallon apartment parking lot, according to court documents. They each held guns in one hand while pushing each other with their other hand, according to police.

Both guns were pointed at the ground, police said, and a witness also drew their gun and pointed it at the ground. At one point, Jones raised his gun and fired three gunshots, according to the probable cause statement.

A bullet struck the person he was arguing with in the head, killing him, police said. Another bullet went through a ground-level apartment and through a couch, narrowly missing a person sleeping on the furniture, police said.

Jones fled the scene, police said, but was arrested March 18. In the days between the shooting and his arrest, police say he intimidated witnesses by sending a “cryptic” message on Snapchat.

The suspect’s attorney information was not listed.

He’s held on a $1,000,000 bond, according to court documents.

O’Fallon is about a 30-mile drive northwest from St. Louis.
