A Michigan woman won a huge prize when she chose a different lottery ticket than the one she wanted.

“The store didn’t have the game I wanted to buy, so I decided to try my luck on the Wild Cherry game,” the Kent County woman, who chose to remain anonymous, told lottery officials, according to a March 14 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

The woman scanned the $10 ticket and got a message that she needed to file a claim.

“I thought I had won $10,000,” she told lottery officials.

So she gave the ticket to the clerk and asked her to check it.

“She helped me scratch the rest of it off, and when she saw I had hit $1 million, she screamed: ‘She just won $1 million,’” the woman said, according to the lottery.

The woman chose a one-time lump sum of $693,000 instead of yearly payments for the full amount.

She said she plans to buy a new home and save the rest.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
