Wife saw ‘unlucky’ number on lottery ticket and gave it to husband — but they won big
Some lottery players fall back on the same lucky numbers every time and eventually win, but if one Missouri player had followed her old habits she never would have purchased a winning ticket.
She told the Missouri Lottery that when she bought her $50 tickets at a Phillips 66 convenience store in Scott City, about a 120-mile drive south of St. Louis, she was in a rush and didn’t pay much attention to the numbers.
“Prior to winning this, there were certain numbers I wouldn’t buy because I considered them unlucky, and 23 was one of those,” she said, according to a March 13 news release.
Her tickets were for the “$5,000,000 Fortune” Scratchers game. Disappointed by learning that one of her two tickets was the 23rd from the pack, she gave the “unlucky” ticket to her husband.
“I scratched off the first ticket and won nothing and he scratched off his and won $50,000!” she said.
She told the Missouri Lottery that after this, she’ll never ask about the numbers on a ticket again.
“What I’ve learned is that there is no unlucky number!” she said.
