Woman bites officer after 3 kids found alone in ‘unsafe’ apartment, Virginia cops say
As officers were arresting a woman in Virginia, she attacked them — biting, kicking and trying to take one officer’s weapon, police said.
This happened at about 7:30 p.m. March 11 when officers responded to an argument at an apartment in Gainesville, the Prince William County Police Department said in a March 12 news release.
Officers said they found three children under the age of 10 alone in the apartment.
The fight happened earlier and both of the parties — including the woman whom McClatchy News is not naming to protect the identity of the children — left before authorities got there, police said.
Police called the living conditions of the apartment “unsafe” and “potentially hazardous” to the children who lived there.
The woman came back to the apartment later and was arrested, police said.
“When officers attempted to detain the accused, she actively resisted and kicked multiple officers several times, bit another officer, and attempted to grab an officer’s holstered weapon,” police said in the release.
She is charged with three counts of felony child neglect, eight counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, plus one count each of attempted disarming of an officer and obstruction of justice, according to police records.
She is being held without bond and will have a preliminary hearing May 30, police said.
The children were not harmed and were passed on to known adults, police said.
Gainesville is about a 30-mile drive southwest from Washington, D.C.
