Rival biker gangs open fire at gas station as customers take cover, Florida cops say

Shoppers were sent running for cover inside a Florida gas station when a parking lot brawl between rival biker gangs escalated to gunfire, video shows.

Two people were wounded in the melee, which erupted Saturday, March 8, at a RaceTrac gas station in New Smyrna Beach, police said in a March 10 news release.

Identities of the wounded — and the two rival gangs — have not been released.

Videos of the encounter — with strong language — can be seen by clicking these Instagram links. Viewer discretion is advised.

The brawl involved dozens of bikers and coincided with the final weekend of the 84th Annual Daytona Beach Bike Week, staged about a 15-mile drive north in Daytona Beach. The 10-day event is billed as “one of the world’s largest motorcycle events.”

“According to witnesses, a large group of motorcyclists engaged in a fight in the parking lot, which eventually escalated into gunfire,” New Smyrna Beach police said.

“The majority of the persons involved fled the scene before officers arrived. Two victims sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were treated at local hospitals.”

One arrest was made and police did not release the person’s identity. He was identified as Mongols motorcycle gang member Clinton Neal Walker, 41, by The Daytona Beach News-Journal. Walker is “charged with inciting a riot, discharging a firearm in public, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,” the newspaper said.

Investigators have not said if the shots came from one person or multiple people.

“This is a complex case involving numerous individuals and groups, many of whom who are uncooperative with law enforcement,” police said.

“We assure you that there is extensive work going on behind the scenes to thoroughly investigate and piece together all of the details of this case.”

Videos shared on Instagram by an account titled “What’s Shady In Daytona” show it began as a profanity-laced argument before multiple men are seen throwing punches.

In one video, a customer at the RaceTrac is seen running into the store for cover as shots ring out. Inside, the staff scrambles for cover and a frightened woman and child are seen hiding behind a buffet counter.

The staff eventually locked the door and told people not to go outside.

New Smyrna Beach is about a 55-mile drive northeast from Orlando.
