A woman chose a Missouri Lottery ticket on a whim, then was left stunned by her winnings.

“It was a totally random choice,” the woman said of the $50,000 Cash Quest ticket she purchased at J-L Beer Barn in Greenfield, according to the Missouri Lottery.

The $3 game offers five jackpot prizes of $50,000, and the Dade County player became the first person to come away with the top reward.

“I didn’t think it was true,” she told lottery officials in a March 4 news release. “I just kept looking at it over and over!”

Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 891,752. The winner didn’t say what she would do with her winnings.

She told lottery officials the win “didn’t feel real” until she claimed her winnings.

“It just didn’t sink in,” she said in the release.

Greenfield is about a 150-mile drive south from Kansas City.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
