Argument at McDonald’s turns deadly, Maryland police say. Security guard charged
A McDonald’s security guard is accused of shooting and killing a man during an argument, Maryland police said.
Officers responded to the shooting at about 8:30 p.m. March 1 in Hyattsville, about a 5-mile drive northeast from Washington, D.C., the Prince George’s County Police Department said in a March 2 news release.
Prince George’s County police told McClatchy News a man was found with a gunshot wound inside the McDonald’s where he died. He was later identified as 45-year-old Ricardo Clemons Jr., police said.
According to an investigation, 54-year-old Murwanashyaka Francois, a security guard for the restaurant, and Clemons were having an argument, which police said led to Francois shooting him. It was unclear what started the altercation.
“We are saddened by this weekend’s tragic incident. Our focus right now is on assisting the local police in any way that we can,” McDonald’s USA told McClatchy News in an email. A spokesperson for the company said the security guard was from a third-party firm.
Francois is charged with second-degree murder and is in custody of the Department of Corrections, police said.
