An 88-year-old man is accused of shooting and killing his wife during an argument at their home in Virginia, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting at about 6 a.m. Feb. 28 in Chantilly, about a 25-mile drive west from Washington, D.C., after receiving a 911 call from the couple’s daughter, Fairfax County Police Capt. Kent Bailey said in a Feb. 28 news conference.

At the residence, police found an 87-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her upper body, Bailey said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they believe an argument led the husband to shoot his wife. He was taken into custody, Bailey said.

The names of the couple have not been released.

The daughter, who was at the home when the shooting happened, was not injured, police said.

The incident is being investigated as a “domestic-related homicide,” Bailey said.
