A gambler made U.S. history when they won the largest online jackpot with just a 20-cent bet, a gambling company said.

The player from Michigan won $9.28 million on Feb. 26, DraftKings said in a news release.

DraftKings is a gambling company based in Boston. Visitors can legally gamble online through the DraftKings Casino app in Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The lucky player who won millions had bet some change on an online slot game called Irish Pot Luck, the company said.

The casino said the jackpot started at $1 million and had been growing since February of last year.

“It’s been exciting to watch this historic jackpot climb to a record-breaking $9.28 million, giving a DraftKings Casino customer in Michigan an incredible, life-changing experience while engaging with our product,” the company’s vice president of iGaming Marketing and Operations, Jason March, said in the release.

A New Jersey gambler held the previous online jackpot record when they won $6.4 million on Aug. 19, according to BetMGM.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
