Son traps woman and kids at gunpoint, then fatally shoots his dad, Indiana cops say
A father was called to a home as his 30-year-old son trapped a woman inside at gunpoint while two children were in the home, Indiana State Police said.
When the dad arrived, his son, identified as Conner Montgomery, shot and killed him in front of the home, Indiana State Police said in a Feb. 10 news release shared by the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office.
The night of Feb. 9, an altercation between Montgomery and a woman broke out in the North Vernon home as two kids were inside, police said.
He pointed a gun at the woman and fired it, police said. The woman then tried to escape, but the man trapped her by shooting and disabling her car, according to troopers.
His dad, 53-year-old Robert “Matthew” Montgomery, was called to the home, according to the news release. Police say his son shot him when he arrived.
Conner Montgomery was arrested at the scene and was charged with murder, criminal confinement, criminal recklessness, domestic battery, neglect of a dependent and pointing a firearm, officers said.
He was taken to Jennings County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
North Vernon is about a 75-mile drive southeast from Indianapolis.
