A man accused of shooting and killing an Amazon truck driver in rural Missouri has been charged with murder following her death.

Thomas Coy, 64, is now charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Jasmine Taylor, 23, according to FourStatesHomePage.

Taylor died of her wounds on Sunday after being taken to the hospital the previous day, according to the outlet.

Ozarks First reported she had been admitted with a head wound from a pellet gun bullet lodged in her skull.

Coy’s initial charges were for first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and armed criminal action, but he was charged with murder on Monday, according to court documents.

Court records reportedly state Coy already has multiple felony convictions. He is in the Lawrence County Jail without bond, according to Ozarks First.

Lieutenant Chris Berry with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office filed a probable-cause statement with the court that detailed the shooting.

A witness saw the Amazon delivery van drive off the road and into a field where it crashed at around 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to Ozarks First.

Video footage of the crash from Amazon showed the victim driving, then slumping over in the driver’s seat as the vehicle came up to the driveway at Coy’s home, according to KY3.

The statement also said Coy took Taylor out of the vehicle and moved her into a nearby ditch, according to KY3.

Berry told the outlet that pellet guns like the one used in the shooting can be very dangerous, and that law enforcement established a motive other than robbery for the shooting.

“Following video review by detectives, the suspect was read Miranda and questioned,” the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. “The suspect confessed to crimes and was arrested on multiple counts.”

Her family mourned her passing in an obituary.

“She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and going to the lake,” the obituary read. “She looked forward to time with family and friends. Jasmine was a delivery driver for Amazon and enjoyed her job. She also loved her dogs, Titan and Kahos.

“Jasmine will be missed by many.”
