Lottery player spends $10 on ticket at a Florida Publix — and hits life-changing win
A $10 lottery ticket from a Publix grocery store just made a 64-year-old Florida man a millionaire — even after taxes.
Stephen Nagy, of Venice, beat odds of 1 in 3,313,314 to win $2 million in the 100X The Cash game, the Florida Lottery said in a Jan. 31 news release.
The scratch-off game launched Jan. 15, 2024, and Nagy got a top prize for matching all the right numbers.
He claimed the prize at the Florida Lottery’s Ft. Myers District Office and was presented with an option of annual payments or a one-time, lump-sum payment.
He went with the lump of cash, taking home $1,280,000.
Nagy bought the ticket at the Publix on South Tamiami Trail in Venice, about a 70-mile drive south from Tampa.
The store got a $4,000 commission for selling a winning scratch-off ticket.
