Man steals $12K from co-worker, then gets shot by getaway driver, Michigan officials say
A Michigan man is accused of shooting his friend who called him for a ride after stealing $12,000, local news outlets reported, citing officials.
According to Oakland County officials, 25-year-old Arthur Crayton, of Pontiac, stole $12,000 from his co-worker Jan. 10, then called his friend Jamarieai Desean Burns for a ride, WDIV reported.
After 30-year-old Burns arrived, he stole $4,000 from Crayton and then shot him in the hip, WJBK reported.
Burns is on parole on an armed robbery charge, the outlet reported, citing Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.
“(Crayton) will be prosecuted for his own alleged crimes, but those crimes don’t justify what happened to him,” McDonald said in a news release, the Oakland Press reported.
Burns is charged with assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and three firearms charges, court records show.
Crayton faces one building larceny charge, court records show. McClatchy News was unable to locate attorney information for Burns and Crayton.
Burns was booked into Oakland County jail Jan. 12 and denied bail, records show.
Crayton was booked into jail Jan. 11 and released a few days later, according to the Oakland Press.
Pontiac is about a 30-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
